Really? Because of all the 'genitalia with teeth" the alien resembles, a penis is well down on my list...

Well, I'm not one to see phallic symbols everywhere, but in the original Alien, there's a scene where the creature slowly stands, er, erect... and it's the spitting image of a turgid member.
Combine that with the scene of the alien's stomach-bursting "birth," and you've got yourself some sort of twisted critique of men and childbirth.
...if you're willing to push it that far, I mean.
