Review Wanted: Bravo Two Zero
 

Does anybody own this or has anybody seen it? I haven't read the book, but I saw a 2 hour special on the History Channel regarding this mission.

I basically want to know if the movie is any good and if the DVD itself has decent audio and video. There doesn't seem to be any special features, but I can live with that if the movie is good.

I am somewhat of a war afficionado especially regarding Special Forces type stuff since my dad was in the SF, so I'm hoping that this movie is decent.

Because I'm a military brat and I've read a lot of books on Special Forces (mainly U.S. Special Forces and a bit of British SAS, Russian Spetsnaz, and Israeli Special Forces), I think I am pretty critical when it comes to war movies. So even though the movie is based on actual real-life events, I hope that the movie doesn't take "Hollywood" (yes, I know that it's a BBC movie) liberties to ramp up the action and intensity at the cost of authenticity.

I rented this on video last year, so I can't comment on the DVD. I thought it was a great movie though. I don't know how accurate it is, but you can sense there was a lack of budget for the film. It doesn't really matter though, because the acting from the cast carries the film. Sean Bean, in particular, is excellent. A good, long war movie.

I finally saw the movie a couple weeks ago. I didn't watch it on DVD (;)) so I can't comment on the audio and video quality of the DVD. However, the movie itself is pretty good. The movie didn't seem to capture some of the things I had seen on the History Channel special, but I thought it was good nevertheless. I've ordered the book, though, and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

The worst part of the movie was that I didn't always understand what the characters were saying with their heavy British accents. That was a pretty minor detail, though, and I'm glad I took the time out to find the movie (;)) and watch it.

The DVD presentation is pretty good. Anamorphic widescreen and fairly sharp. I was surprised by how much detail it added compared to the UK VHS I'd been watching all of these years. Sound is 2.0 but it gets the job done. The extras are comprised of a few lame direct-to-video trailers.

I only saw part of the movie, and thought it was ok, but you really should read the book. Both Bravo Two Zero and Immediate Action are very good books for the genre... And as a side note, 'Andy McNab', the author, also provided technical assistance for the weapons scenes in the movie 'Heat'...

I'm 2/3 of the way through <I>Bravo Two Zero</I> right now. I also have <I>Immediate Action</I> on the shelf waiting to be read along with <I>Crisis Four</I> and <I>Firewall</I>. :)
