Salaam Bombay!

This groundbreaking film from the late 80's is given an incredible presentation on dvd. It's anamorphic ,1.85:1 with the original soundtrack and a new 5.1 track. The 5.1 track is a little pale in my opinion and really doesn't use the full potential of the street sounds this film could have benefitted from. The films looks great although colors seem to be a little subdued (maybe I'm just a little too used to the vibrant colors you usually get in Indian films- this isn't Bollywood territory here). Where this dvd really shines though is in the extras - Two commentaries, 6 featurettes, photo gallery! The director commentary is insightful and moving. The cinematographer's commentary is extremely detailed. The featurettes bring the participants back for interviews. If you were considering this dvd I would recommend it highly. I ordered it when it was announced without even knowing about all the extras.

Yeah, I just noticed today that this was coming out (slipped under the radar with me for some reason). Didn't get in on any preorder deal, but DDD has it for $17 shipped...
