Is Band of Brothers a good blind buy?

I've been thinking of buying this set, but because of the high price on it i've been kind of leanient towards buying it.I really like war movies and have heard good things about it from critics. What do you all have to say?

HBO can kiss my ass - 13 episodes for $59.99 what a load.

Its like there selling the ****in rights to you or something - its just way to expensive and besides Sex in the City, everyone of their series is overpriced. Thanks to them it was why the Godfather trilogy was so damn much!

Good thing that is your opinion......

I actually paid $55.00 shipped for this through Amazon.ca when it was first released. Blind buy which was worth every penny!!! My original plan was to buy it.....watch the episodes and sell it. Liked it so much I kept the set!!!

Well, guess I own the most expensive Tin-box.
Payd about 8$ only for the shipping (to germany)
plus 60 for the box
and I don't regret it at all! Great production, good blind buy.

I keep going back and forth on this DVD set. I love the War movies but it just seems very expensive at $89. I have heard good things about this set. Infact today on amazon it had 444 votes that gave it an overall 5 stars.

So, is it worth it? Do they at least use the right tanks in the series (real Tigers, Panzers, Shermans, etc)? It always drives me nuts to see American tanks with German markings ...

I really wanted to see this after hearing so many great things about the series, but the price was just to steep. Finally decided to pick it up from Amazon with some gift certificates I had left from Christmas and ended up paying around $20.

Absolutely the best $20 I ever spent on a DVD! If you like war movies don't hesitate buying it. My wife even loved it and she usually dislikes war films. A well put together DVD collection for an exceptional series. A jewel in my collection.

I would never pay $55.00 for a blind buy.

If you love war movies, then buy it.
If you have money to spend, then buy it.
If you love Steven S. movies, then buy it.
If you love history, then buy it.
If you read the review and like the reviews, then buy it.

I said yes to all the above, and I bought it.

It's pretty much worth any of the prices it sells for, I think. You figure it's 6 discs, the first 5 being the 10 episode/10 hour series itself; and the 6th disc being a pretty good supplment disc.

Each series DVD is 2 hours, which if they were sold seperatly would/could retail for $20 and get away with it. That'd be $100 for the entire series. I don't see what's so wrong with it being sold for $80-$90, since you're getting a really stunning package with a 'bonus' disc all for less than what it would add up to normally.

I paid $80 for it at Best Buy when it came out and felt like I scored a deal...

If you like war stories, I would recommend The world at war boxset.

I avoided the series when it was on tv as I didn't fancy it. Over Christmas I stayed at my g/fs cousins house and they had rented the first disk so we watched it on their 50 odd inch widescreen tv and I thought it was exellent. Haven't got round to watching the rest yet but I intend to.

I bought it blind and it was worth every penny. Use a 15 off 50 at half.com and you can get it for 50 shipped new.

You may be able to get it in the $50-$60 range. I would have hoped that a version without the tin could be made available at $39.99, but that isn't the case, so take it or leave it.

It it a great series about the 101st Airborne Division in World War II. It has a good story, looks great on a widescreen (it is anamorphic 1.66:1), and it sounds fantastic in Dolby and DTS.

I purchased it long ago, and I do not regret it. It's good stuff!

I do feel bad for the people who purchased it on VHS; in a few years, it will look like actual World War II footage because of tape degradation and lack of bandwidth.

The Shermans, Cromwells, and halftracks are authenic.

The German equipment are either real or remodeled mock-ups using modern equipment.

IIRC, the German StuG assault guns were heavily modified British Warrior IFVs. The Tiger is a heavily modified Russian T-34/85. The Jadgpanther maybe authenic, I don't know. The Marder II maybe as well.

But the point is that the German vehicles look authenic as close as they could get'em with today's available hardware. If you're not up on your specs on German equipment, then you won't be able to tell if they're real or not.

I just got done watching the series with a friend. I'm no huge war-buff or anything, but damn, was this series impressive. I think I could watch it over and over again. Definitely, a great buy!

I would say that, in general, if you are interested enough in the show to ask about it as a "blind buy", then -- Yes, you will enjoy it.

It's a great series and the only people I can picture not liking it are people who weren't interested in the subject matter to start with...

Well, I am buying it blindly. I never had HBO, so I haven't even seen trailers for it.

I picked it up tonight at Half.com for $40.28 shipped using the $15 off $50!! Brand spanking new!

I just got my DTS home theater set up, so now I really can't wait to rock the house!!
