Got my Monterey Pop from Dvdempire today and it looks and sounds good but the packaging (Paper/Cardboard!!!) kind of sucks. It looks okay at first but I do not think it will last long like a good old plastic dvd case. One corner of my paper/cardboard box arrived kind of smashed. I just hope Criterion does not go to snappers next.

With Criterion you know your getting top of the line stuff!!
I only wish they did more mainstream movies but then again it's probably better that they don't because it would take longer to release and be more costly since they are very slow and meticulous..That's a good thing by the way!
MPF looks like another keeper!!..I can't wait to get my copy!!

I love this set, but the reviews that talk about the pristine video are a little over the top. Compared to the Last Waltz, the original quality of the film was weak. During Simon and Garfunklel, all you see are red blobs on the screen. I never saw the old vhs version, so I assume the new discs are light years better, but the source material is grainy and somewhat amateurish. JMO...
I'd still buy this again in a heartbeat, though. Great set.

The quality of the DVD is as good as you could expect. They weren't working with perfect source material by any means. The DTS audio sounds pretty darn good. I'd never seen Monterey Pop before and I must say I was a bit disappointed. But if you already like it, the quality of this set is the best presentation you could hope for.
