The Last Waltz

All I can say is...WOW! MGM has done a catalog release right on this one. Great picture. The 5.1 soundtrack is simply awesome for a 25 year old movie. Great extras...haven't checked out the Scorsese/Robertson commentary yet though. Even the packaging and the insert are impressive. If only all catalog releases could be treated this well...

I totally agree. Great job on the DVD. I had been waiting for this one for so long I am glad they did right by it. None to soon either, my old VHS copy was on it's last legs.

The last 6 months MGM has been putting out the best video quality DVD's of anyone (IMHO)! Just look at the 1958 release of The Vikings that came out this past week. The video on the Vikings DVD's is better then a lot of the newer films being released these days! They are releaseing a lot of older titles and they all are very nicely done!

BTW: The Last Waltz is outstanding!!

I just bought/watched this, & really enjoyed the music. The only thing I would criticize is how the scenes switched between a performance & an interview spot. Several times, it seemed like the music was still winding down, and the scene jumped over to another conversation with Scorcese & Robertson. Just annoyed me a few times. But, hey, what do I know about directing!

I think my favorite performance was "Evangeline", which was done on a separate set.

Steve.

This has been one of my long-awaited releases and did not disappoint. (Except there is very little extra video coverage, just a jam) The 2nd commentary, especially the contributions from Garth Hudson and Levon Helm and Dr.John, are worth the price in itself.
