The movie is excellent - if you like Sunday afternoon type family movies - a very good buddy flick.

As for the DVD, it's anamorphic and English mono, with a couple of trailers and nothing else. So pretty much bare bones, but it was a must buy for me!

despite the disc having few features, the transfer is not bad at all, and the movie is EXCELLENT...one of the best and well worth getting.

Buy it!!!

The transfer was better than expected...the audio was actually pretty decent when I listened to it via pro logic surround. Good storyline...your classic college boy vs townies movie. You will die when you see how young Dennis Quaid is in this movie....

Don't you ever get tired of saying that?

I just got done watching this movie for the first time. I definitely recommend it. For a film from 1979, the DVD looks pretty good. Not as good as some of the greater DVDs from the movies era i.e. Blues Brothers, Taxi Driver CE. The audio is also nothing spectacular, but delivers the dialog with no problems which is more important than anything else in this film. With a msrp of only 19.95, Breaking Away is money well-spent. This is definitely a film I will revisit often.

After a few days, I'm already getting the itch to see this movie again. It also put me in the mood to hit the bike trail in this cold; but I thought better of that. When it warms up, I'll be sure to have my fair share of cycling accidents again this summer. Anybody else have those little pedals that clip into the bottom of special shoes? Those things have done me more harm than good thus far.

the weather is warming up...

the key is to unclip before your bike comes to a complete stop!!
Falling over at a stoplight is mighty embarrassing...believe me, I know.

I haven't had any spills out in the open. I am pretty keen a the unclipping, but when I try to keep up with better bikers I go into the woods with and there's logs and branches and trees in the way -- I start to have a lot of trouble.

Great movie and a decent disc. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it is worth picking up sight unseen.

I love this movie, there is something that we all can relate to. There is the feeling of being alienated, which everyone goes through at some point, there is the pursuit of a woman, there is friendship. This movie has it all, it has great dialogue, actors, everything. I recommend it!
