I did not like this one. The storyline had absolutely no flow to it. The direction was choppy. The acting did not seem natural. Tommy Lee Jones makes what I guess could be called a cameo appearance. Out of Stone's three Vietnam films, this is by far the weakest and is easily forgettable.

I love Oliver Stone's films. JFK, Platoon, etc., they're all great. "Heaven and Earth" however, I thought, was very bad.

Stone has often been criticized for being mysogynistic. While I don't necessarily agree, it is in this movie where such critics can get a lot of ammunition.
Spoiler:
We se the main character get tortured in Vietnam, then have trouble fitting in the USA, and getting abused by Tommy Lee Jones, who eventually dies. The implication is that she now has very little. Then, in a voice-over in the last few minutes of the film, the main character says, (paraphrasing), "I learned about real estate, and rebuilt my life. Today, I run my own business." In other words, instead of watching the story of a woman becoming empowered and learning to cope with her situation, we see her tortured for two hours, and what would have made an interesting, even inspiring, story is reduced to 1 minute of voice-over.

Pass on this movie.
