reviews wanted:discreet charm of the burgeoisie and unbearable lightness of being

I just wanted to get some opinions on the quality of the transfers and such, or some links to reviews. I have only found a couple in my search. So what do you think? Are they worth the price?

"Discreet Charm" ranks with Bunuel's best, but I wouldn't recommend Bunuel to absolutely everyone. Much of your enjoyment of "DC" will depend on your tolerance (or really, love) of nonlinear storytelling. To me, Bunuel's oblique way of filmmaking is his greatest quality, one which allows for repeat viewings.

But what's it about? On the surface, "DC" revolves around the failed attempts of a group of petit-bourgeois people to eat dinner together. Each gathering gets ruined by increasingly surreal events, such as a guerrilla takeover of the house they're eating in. Bunuel loves and hates his characters, using them to skewer upper-middle-class values at every turn.

This is a lot more fun than it sounds! At heart, it's a slyly funny movie, and it's a blast to watch these people underreact to some perfectly bizarre situations. "DC" also boasts the single most realistic dream sequence I've ever seen in film...

As a DVD, "DC" is a winner: great transfer, good subtitles. The extra disc sports *two* documentaries about Bunuel, one of which offers a terrific overview of Bunuel's career.
