Review wanted: Beat the Devil (Platinum Disk Corp.)
 

I picked this up with my Best Buy coupon for $5.99 - 10%. I've never heard of Platinum Disk Corp. Is it worth the money, or is it like Metropolis, too painful to watch for any price?

...don't know about the Platinum DVD, but this movie - with its to-die-for cast - really deserves the best possible transfer made from the best possible source...

I saw this movie years ago on late-night television and thought it was hilarious. I watched it with my girlfriend last night and we both laughed a lot. The cast is a joy to watch. Bogart is more interesting when silent than most actors can be when talking.

The disk comes in a dvd-size jewel box. The sound is mono, but the right speaker occasionally dropped out in a disconcerting manner. The film transfer was fine, with occasional scratches, usually more at the end of the reels.

The extras are pretty minimal: a chapter list, biographies, and a three-question trivia quiz which includes one wrong answer.
