billy jack box
anyone have this, and how are all the films? thanks

I haven't seen any of the movies, but the E! cable channel is currently running the background on the movies, which I thought was interesting.

I have had this box set since its release. Since I do not consider myself a professional critic, I will keep this brief...so here it goes
All discs are unfortunately in p&s 1.33:1. While I really wish they had been widescreen anamorphic, the video quality is not all that bad, especially considering the age of the films. It is definatley the best these films have ever looked, and probably the best they ever will look, because I seriously doubt there will be a re-release on any of them. You can expect quite a bit of grain throughout though. The audio is another story. They are in DD stereo, but not 5.1. The sound field is not impressive at all. There is a nice audio commentary track with Tom Laughlin and Deloris Taylor, which gives alot of 'behind the scenes' info and the typical complimenting each other over and over again. One BIG problem I have noticed with the commentary track is it does not keep up with the action on the screen. In other words, when an actor says something on screen, their mouth doesn't move until literally seconds later. And when Tom and Deloris are pointing something specific out, you don't see it until seconds later. All in all, I recommend this set to big fans only. That is a category that I fall into, and I wouldn't want to be without them. Otherwise, I think you would be disappointed. |
