Can I get a review on Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July

How are these films? I've never seen them, and am pretty interested in Vietnam. I've only seen two Oliver Stone films, Any Given Sunday and Natural Born Killers, and none of them sparked my interest, I know the two I want reviewed are about Vietnam, but are they better films overall than Any Given Sunday / NBT?

Thanks in advance for any reviews!

Platoon is not only one of my fav war movies, but one of my fav movies overall. I think when you watch the documentary and listen to the commentary from the military advisor you begin to understand why. The effort that went into making the movie was amazing. If you like the mid80s+ Vietnam movies would most likely enjoy this one, since it is the one that started the genre again. Also, finally they re-released the good version of the DVD as well

WRT 4thJuly I haven't seen it so....

Platoon is great. You can't go wrong with it. In my opinion, it is the best Vietnam movie besides Apocalypse Now. I've seen Born on the Fourth of July, and it's worth a look. It's a good one rent because it's not the type of movie that I want to see over and over.

...if, as you say, you're "pretty interested in Vietnam" (which is not at all the same thing as saying you're pretty interested in the War in Vietnam ... but, hey! who am I to cavil...) you may also be interested in Tran Anh Hung's critically acclaimed, hard-hitting Vietnamese/French co-production Cyclo or the same director's equally well-received, gentle French-produced The Scent Of Green Papaya...

...just thought I'd mention it...
