I'd like a review of the quality of the Superman 3 and 4 DVD's. Stories too if you want. I haven't seen either of them in a long time. I remember Superman 4 being quite horrible though.

I find it hilarious that this had 31 views with 0 replies. To you 31 people: the title said he wanted a review, so if you didn't have one, what were you expecting to read? A damn good question???

Honestly, this film is not as bad as everyone says...
 

Okay, this not the best installment by any stretch,
but the visual effects blow away Superman 4!

Sure Richard Pryor is using this flick a a vehicle
for his sketch comedy, but don't blame him, blame
the producers. He's only doing what he does best...
make us laugh.

The opening credit sequence is worth the price of
the disc! Director Richard Lester blends great
comic slapstick with the colorful strokes of
an award-winning painter on acid. This is not an
insult by any means...hats off to Lester for his
deft ability in lightening up the series with comedic
flair.

The transfer to dvd is top-notch. I don't recall
the film looking this good during its 1983 theatrical release. The colors are smooth and shadow delineation
is dead on. Blacks are true and deep. The sound, well
sure Warner should have given us a 5.1 mix - in any event
the soundtrack holds up well.

Parting thoughts:
The disc is a welcomed entry into the classic series
and is probably the very best transfer that we will
ever see for SUPERMAN III. Pick it up, better yet -
purchase the box set, as no library is complete without
all four movies.

Another for not as bad as you think....
 

When it came out it made ~$60 million so back in 1983 that was a pretty good chunk of change... Sure they tried for humor and some of it hits and some of it misses. 50X better than part 4. For $19.95 it will make a nice Columbia House selection to end a membership. :D mseg

I liked it too. The transfer was impressive, but the sound mix was a disappointment. No matter how good a 2.0 mix sounds, it will never match a 5.1. Besides that minor quip though, I recommend it.

Threads getting a bit old but I just watched this the other day and wanted to add my 2 cents:

After being blown away by Supe I on DVD and very disappointed by Supe II, Supe III was surprisingly entertaining. I've always been a defender of the movie... for some reason I've always liked it. But while being older and a bit wiser allowed me to see the flaws in Supe II, Supe III still continues to be what it always was: just another chapter in the Superman legend. People complain about the story, which in actuality is pretty typical comic book writing. Others hate the addition of Pryor but god damn it, he's funny. The movie doesn't suffer from the continuity problems Supe II had and all in all is not a bad film.

And in what other films can you learn the following:

1) You can break into a corporate computer system simply by typing in: "Override All Security"

2) Wire removal must be a lot harder than I think. :)

3) Oversize novelty cowboy hats are INCREDIBLY F#*@ING FUNNY.

4) A person can fall off a sky scraper and survive simply by donning a pink tablecloth and pink skis.
