Okay, it has happened. I have Sony's 300 disc changer (860) and am at 292 with 8 titles on order. Now what? With all the great titles coming out and my inability to stop purchasing these things, I am rapidly reaching capacity. I was using component video but realize that I am going to have to switch through my receiver if I get another changer. Can these changers be daisy chained in any way? Am I going to be forced to use a different manufacturer so that my remotes won't scream at me? Those of you with changers please let me know 1. How you managed to get past this hurdle or 2. How you plan on getting past this hurdle. Any and all advice appreciated.

This is precisely one of the two main reasons why I didn't buy into one of these changers yet. Sony didn't add in a very good system for daisy chaining multiple units together. You simply have to buy another and have it operate as a separate DVD player.

You mentioned that you have the option of switching the component via your receiver. What receiver do you have?

<--- can't switch component at receiver

Actually, I was using Component video to the Television, I realize that I am going to have to "drop down" to s-video so that I can switch through multiple DVD players now. I also have a single tray Toshiba DVD player that is my stand-alone DVD and CD player as my CD Player (300 disc as well) is also full. Sigh.

Ah, I see. Well,.... you could always go buy a Denon AVR-5800. That would solve the component switching problem (among other things) ;)

Drool.

Unfortunately, the foundation of the building I live in cannot support the weight of that thing. I think that Home Theater Magazine and Sound & Vision should be sued for that 2 page ad they allow in their mags.

I didn't want to start a new thread because my questions were related to this topic kinda... I'm considering purchasing a 200+ disc changer for my system. I've got all sony already and I would like to keep it that way. However, I would also like to get a player that can be made codefree and play CD-Rs and VCDs as well as CDs and DVDs. It would also be nice if it could play NTSC/PAL to NTSC OR PAL TVs. This is a pipedream I know... So anyway - I was looking at the 3 different Sony changers... the 850, 860 and 870. I heard the 850 is cheap... what about the 860 and 870? Are they much better? What's the advantage to getting the 870? My reciever is the Sony STR-DE835 or 845... anyway - it's been playing DTS discs with help from my Toshiba 2109. I can get the 860 for $430 and the 870 for $630... Do any of you think that these features are worth an extra $200?:
Dolby Digital 5.1 processing built-in
Copper Plated Chassis
Anti Vibration top plate
Holographic Slot Labels

They don't mention that the 870 lights up blue. :)

Anyway - if you own any of these players - could you tell me how you like it (beyond telling me that you're pissed that it can't hold more than 300 discs)? I own around 300 discs, but I don't care if I have to open a case and switch out a DVD now and then. I'll probaby get rid of a 5 Disc CD Carousel and replace it with this 300 disc DVD player... My Toshiba DVD will stay on active duty since it's Region Free. Also - if you know of other DVD players that play tons of DVDs at a similar price range - please share your thoughts. THanks.

My thoughts...

I have the 860, the 850 only holds 200. I had the 870 on hold until I could save the dough only to realize that the primary difference between the 860 and 870 was that the 870 has on board 5.1 processing. Don't need that, bought the 860. $430 is a great price, congrats,I paid $525 at the local Sony store. I am in the market for a second one as you have seen above. I hear very good things about the Pioneer DV-F727/Denon 300+1 unit over at audioreview.com. That may be where I am headed. I read a lot of complaints about how noisy this thing is, I just don't hear it. Maybe my receiver is turned up too high :)

The biggest complaint seems to be the limited amount of characters you can input for the title. Having the 300 disc CD Changer as well, I am very creative in this respect. Good luck

I have the same problem but i have the 200 changer and now have over 300 dvds - not including the nearly 300 CDs I have. I posted a couple of weeks ago how nice it would be for Sony to make a 1000 disc changer where the disc unit is a hide a way unit and then have a display unit that fits in with the rest of the equiptment. THe thing would play DVD, CD, DVD Audio, SACD, VCD, MP3, CD-R/W, and Play Station 1 & 2 discs - now that would be the ultimate in home entertainment. Oh yea when playing audio discs there would be soem sorta light show on the TV screen like the 3DO and Jaguar did.
