Well, not exactly. I'm looking to buy a new reciever in the next 6 months. What's a good brand to look at? Onkyo, Sony, H/K, etc. DD/DTS are a must. I would prefer something that will give me high home theater quality without ignoring the fact that I like to listen to CD's as well. Finally, I have a price cap of $700.

I currently use a Sony STR-D715 reciever, JBL front, rear, and center speakers, Sony DVP-S530D DVD player, and a JBL PSW 1000 powered sub. And please, if you must ridicule me, at least offer me some advice along with the jab.

H&K

go with the tried and true. Plus they tend to be a little easier on the pocket book.

Is that, like, Harm & Kardon or something?

Onkyo, Marantz, Denon, Yamaha, Nakamichi all make products in this range. You should decide what works best for you, of course.

Me too.. I have the 8000. The 7000 is an awesome value. I wanted the copper shielding and the better remote. Helped that the guy was out of 7000's so I got a decent deal to upgrade to his last 8000 when I got it.

Denon is also worth serious consideration.. For music AND HT, I think Marantz and Denon make the best stuff in that range.

Not to beat it to death, but I have to agree with the Marantz. I have the 7000 and love it for both mucic and movies -- probably the best all around performer and what a great value. Give it a listen.

Of course, if you really want me to help you spend your money, you could always just send a blank check to...
