I'm really starting to wish I bought a service plan for this TV.
Ok, here's what I'm experiencing. let Me know if you think you know what it is.
Crackling. My TV crackles when I turn it off. THe tech who came over to fix it last time, said that was normal with this TV...anyone know if it is?
non Black, Black Bars. My Black Bars have a tendency to be not so black sometimes. In the corners, sometimes it appears like the a dim light is shining out. It only happens when the screen is bright, and the 16x9 mode is on.
My frame is still uneven, but I can deal with that.

Oh, 2 more little things.
It makes noises when I'm watching it. It sounds almost like a soft ping. My last TV did it too, so I think it's just the tube. It happens about every 40 minutes or so.
If I turn it on, watch it for a bit, and turn it off, then right back on, I get a white flash on the screen.

And I don't have those problems with my 32FS12. Sorry. The crackling could just be static electricity dissipating...?
Also, maybe you shouldn't be turning it on and off and on quickly...? Is there a reason this could be bad for the TV?
The ping boggles my mind, though.

Well it's not really a ping...it's more of a "chunk" noise. It's almost like the cabinet my TV is setting on moved a little. but I know it's the TV. mY last Trinitron did it too.
The crackel/static is probably a good bet, caus the screen dos get real staticy when I turn it off.
Now, about them black bars.....

Thanks Keyser! I feel much better now. I figured the tech wouldn't lie about the crackling, but I wasn't sure.
Now about the black bars....do you think I need to adjust my black levels?
I thouht it may have been my DVD player, so I tried my PS2 and I got the same results. I've also tried composite, S and Component Video cables all with the same result.
You think I may be getting interferecne? Or what?

My black bars weren't very "black" until I adjusted the contrast and brightness some on my KV27FS12. They looked even better after calibrating it with Avia. I don't get the cracking noise though. It does make a sound when you turn it on, but its more of a "whoomp" sound which I believe is from degaussing(sp?) I've had no problems with my set since I bought it in August, maybe I got lucky.

I just got my 27fs16 about an hour ago. And I have a question.
When I switch to 16x9 enhanced mode while watching a DVD, the viewable screen area gets smaller not larger. Am I doing something wrong?

Out of curiousity: How could the viewing area possibly get bigger?

Well thanks for all the help guys I guess my TV isn't busted.
Thank God.
And I lowered the picture/brightness a bit, and the black bars improved dramastically.
Thanks!

Some TVs have a THX Optimode calibrating... uh, thingy with them. My Fight Club (2-disc) and Ultimate Toy Box DVDs have them for sure, and there are others. I used that to calibrate my system (some factory settings were way high), and haven't felt the need to get Avia or Video Essentials... yet, anyways.

uh oh, I watched a DVD today, and I noticed that it wasn't just the black bars. I noticed a faint light line up the left line of the TV...what do you think this is?
If I can calibrate myself in the service menu, please tellme

WEGA
I have a 27" Sony WEGA and when you tun it off that crackeling sound is the tube cooling off. I never knew how hot they actually get until I had an engineering class in college and did some work on a TV for a project. The noise may be from the heating and cooling of the tube..different coloring will creat different heat levels. Try setting the TV on different picture settings and see of that changes anything. Igf all else fails drop it out the second story window and call your insurance company and claim you got robbed. But I suggest do the other first.
