ok i have a Technics sl-940 amp
it is quoted to have 100X5 watts per channel in dolby digital
this gives it 100 X2 watts in stereo

it has terminals on the back to add a second set of fronts for stereo mode and you can switch between them
now if i put both A and B termianls wires into my tower speakers would i boost the output to 200 watts a channel??? in stereo

ok this is pretty confusing to expalin but i hope you get it

Unless your amp is made to be bridged, which it probably isn't, doing this will fry your amp.

I wouldn't suggest it.

Technics don't have very good circuit protection, so it'll probably blow it out. I say this cause I'm a former Technics owner and had a stray wire actually blow my amp AND speakers...Un-frickin' believable.

I have a Sony STR-DE545, with A/B capabilities. I would like to hook up an extra set of speakers on the the B setting. It has the ability to have both A and B on at the same time. The receiver is 100w/channel. Are there adverse reactions for this? I believe the receiver goes up to 30 for the volume setting, i never go past 15. Would i still blow out the receiver?

I wish I had my EE circuits books handy. It really depends on how the A-B switches are set up, parallel vs series. One way creates a large resistance which can bring your receiver to it's knees in a matter of seconds if you run them both at once. I'll stop here as I am a chemE and have no right even talking about this. The experts can explain it better. I can say that I blew the power supply to my Denon real quick trying to do this, good thing it was under warranty.

You CAN hook up two pairs of speakers using the A/B outputs. You CANNOT hook up wires from both the A and B outputs and put them into the same pair of speakers.

Svadas is right, though, you will be changing the load characteristic on your amplifier stage. Depending on how it's done, you run a risk of lowering the resistance too much (making the amp run really hot). So, if you do run both pairs at the same time, be careful. I've also toasted a receiver running A & B speakers at the same time, but I was listening at a ridiculously high level.

Note : my technics amp does not let you listen to any surround sound modes when both a and b are switched on

with my technics amp whenever i listen to cds in stereo
i always have the a and b speakers on (sounds better)
my speakers are only 6 ohms and are not giant towers

my question is if why would these companys allow you to put two sets of fronts on and tell you how to do it if it would blow!!!!

running two sets of speakers as the company tells you, will not blow your amp or put extra strain(maybe) if the amp has 5 channels and i was runnning in stereo 2 channels then turning on the b speakers would only use 2 more channels theoretically

please someone correct me if im wrong(probably am lol)

lerroy
not even gonna think about bridging the ab terminals lol
