I have had an offer to buy this unit at $150 new in box(my wifes brother works at a electronic store) but I have heard some bad things about this unit. Something about a hiss at high levels. If there is, is it bad enough to recommend not buying it at this price. I read some reviews on one sight where all people could talk about was the hiss but still gave the unit a great rating. Just wondering.
Thanks in advance,

Thats a great price for the unit. JVC does not a have a well known rep for receivers but some of the ones they put out are quite decent. I would suggest testing out the unit with your speakers and seeing how it sounds. If there is no hiss audible to you, I see no reason why you should not get. At the very worst you will return, at the best you get a hell of a unit at a great price....go for it!!!

How could you go wrong for $150.00? I wold jump on it...
I had a JVC 8000. I paid $340.00 last year for it, never had a problem and was real solid. Well worth the money I paid for it.

I found their power specs woefully inflated, so don't expect a huge amount of power when you see their 130W/ch spec. If you can only afford $150, then buy it, but don't be surprised if you uncover certain deficiencies with the receiver.
