I have a Toshiba SD2200, and I have been having problems with a particular DVD. I have not been able to play (or even load) the DVD on a consistent basis. Sometimes, I pop in the troublesome DVD, and it plays. I press stop (twice) to stop the machine, and press play again, only to have the player give me "disc error". Sometimes, when this happens, I remove the DVD disc and place it in the other tray, and it loads and plays without any further problems.

The DVD is "Gundam Wing - Endless Waltz", which is known to cause trouble on a variety of machines. On certain machines, the DVD is reported to not play at all. I'm just curious about the inconsistencies. This is the 2nd replacement disc that I've tried on my machine with the same inconsistent results. While there's a good chance that the problem doesn't lie with my player, is there anything I can do to increase the success rate? Perhaps cleaning would help?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sometimes there are incompatibilities between the player and the disc, just like there are incompatibilities between software and computers. I do not think that cleaning this disc or the player will have any effect. The only known solution to these types of problems is to have the player's firmware updated by sending it to an authorized service center. If you're only experiencing problems with one disc, and this disc is a known troublemaker, then I wouldn't think that the cost of updating the player would be worth it. YMMV. The update may not solve the problem, either, so I would learn to live with the fault or buy a new player that the disc will play in.
