I'm a college student on a budget, so I only have an older TV with RF connection and a VCR with stereo inputs. My video game systems are hooked up through the VCR, but now I'm hearing that there is some anti-piracy thing built into dvd players that don't allow them to be hooked up through a VCR. Are there any DVD players that don't have this restriction, and are also under $200? I was looking into the Toshiba SD-1600, but I'm not sure if it has this "feature". Thanks in advance!

Get an RF converter from radio shack. There about $30-40, but you're better off getting a good dvd player then finding one that disables macrovision buy gives problems.

You can always use the rf conferter for something else later on, or you could probably ebay later.

All DVD players and newer VCR have this feature.
Some older(like one from 1990) VCR's will allow you to hook up your DVD through your VCR.

What you should do is buy a AB switch and a RF converter(I think thats what it is called) The Rf coverter will allow you to take the RCA out of the DVD player in the converter and have coaxial out. You then can feed this coax into the AB switch. The VCR will also go into this switch as well. You can find this equipment at Radioshack or Homedepot.

Actually, the RF converter will have a coax pass thru for your antenna. Just pass the signal from your vcr thru that and you really don't need a swithbox. The converter itself will have some type of switch for the coax. input and the rca input.

About two years ago when I bought an RF converter (same purpose) from Radio Shack they had one for $30 and one that switched between coax and rca inputs automatically for $40. About the only thing I can say is that the video quality does suffer from going thru the RF converter, but it is a lot better then trying to watch a movie with macrovision.

The item is called an RF Modulator. The picture quality will be as good as broadcast TV, should automatically switch from antenna pass-thru to DVD whenever you turn the player on, and will save you a lot of hassle and headaches for $30. Like daledude said, make sure to hook it up between the VCR and TV, not before the VCR.
