The Harman Kardon DVD 50 looks like a good one. It has progressive scan, plays MP3s, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and does HDCD. I think it retails for $600. Not sure you can get one yet, though.

Toshiba 2200 or the newer model, the model name escapes me. Doesn't play CD-r's, but for 200 or less, great overall player.
