I have a Toshiba 40H80 and I just calibrated using VE. In spite of the fact that the on-screen menu makes the calibration quite a challenge as it interferes with the test patterns (is there any way to make the on-screen menu smaller, or leave only the setting that is being adjusted?), I settled on the following values:
- contrast: 38 - brightness: 40 - color: 50 - tint: 0 - sharpness 0 With DVD (I have a Toshiba SD5109) the picture looks very nice to me, although I'm a "HT neophyte" and I could be easily missing something. Anyway in some of the settings (especially contrast and sharpness) I couldn't see much difference in the test patterns when going up and down. Does any 40H80 (or TW40X81) owner find similar settings when calibrating with VE? Or did anyone else have the same experience when using VE? Please let me know. Thanks. |
My guess is that you might not see a big difference in the sharpness except at the extremes -- when it's way up, you can see how artificial it looks. When it is way down, it can either be blurry or natural -- if it looks natural, be glad you have great TV.

I was just curious. Are these settings you listed out of 100(38/100, 40/100, etc)?

Yes, the settings I listed are out of 100.
