I never read this hardware forum, so if it's been talked about, it hasn't appeared in my searches.

Recently, I've been having strange audio problems, as in little to no audio, or a missing audio "track". I've had my Sony DVP-S330 player for over a year now, with no problems.

The symptom is either, lack of dialogue or lack of music, but the remaining (ambient) sound can still be heard. In Thomas Crown Affair (1999), the bowler hat scene has no music, only dialogue and sound effects. I was thinking a problem with the disc.

Recently, I was demonstrating some features of The Prince of Egypt. In the multi-language featurette, there was no narration (where obviously there would be), but when it came to the song, I could hear the lyrics and music fine.

In both cases, I think I hear very low frequencies. I also opened/closed and turned on/off the player, but the problems persist.

I may have had a preview to this problem last summer with Moonraker. In both the opening and closing songs, there were no lyrics, only instrumental music. The French track had the music fine. I was able to exchange it, and it fixed the problem.

Incidentally, I have a Denon AVR-1800 receiver.

Is this a problem with the player, or are my discs somehow going bad?

I noticed a problem last weekend with my 330 as well. I was watching WATERBOY and the audio was not in sync with the video. Like a bad kung-fu dubb! ;) It may be the disc, because I have never run into this before. However, not that you mention sound problems, I will definately watch for it.

Thanks for your comments. But I want to clarify that I'm not having any syncronizing probems. That would be dialogue not matching the mouth movements.

My problem is partial drop of sound all together; be it just dialogue or just music.

The synch problem is well known and (as has been reported) a little too common in the early 330's.

On topic, I have never had a problem with mine. Synch or otherwise. Your problem is pretty bizarre, to say the least, and it's the first time I've heard of it. Have you tried hometheaterforum.com?
