I have a 27 inch Toshiba 27A50 TV and a Sony dvp-s530d dvd player. When I play movies on my tv in 16:9 setting the movie looks slimmer but is the best quality that way. Gladiator looks much cleaner and sharper. Better quality than playing it in 4:3 letter box. Just my opion. I guess i'll prefer watching my movies this way for now on. I guess there not meant to be watched this way but does anyone besides me watch there movies this way?

Problem is, if you watch any movie with supermodels in them...they get so thin, they disappear...it's a really weird effect.

You can do the anamorphic squeeze on your TV and everything will look better and have the proper dimensions. Yeah, the picture is clearer the way you're watching but wayyy distorted. As bad as watching P&S garbage.

thats why you get a Sony WEGA and take advantage of it's 16X9 enhancement for dvds.

How do I do this anamorphic squeeze tweak? My dvd player has no options I can find.

The anamorphic squeeze trick is done on your TV, not your DVD player. Try searching the forum for the subject - I know I've seen it here before.

I suggest that if you try this, you need to record all of your initial settings (in case something gets messed up). I think you will appreciate the picture more if it's not "slimmed" up. If I had this problem, I'd rather have my DVD downconvert the video rather than watching it in "skinny-vision". However, for now, the WEGA solves this problem with its built-in anamorphic squeezing.
