If anyone wants to know the price, I got it pricematched for 3300 at Fry's in Phoenix.

I am still curious - how do I get the best DVD picture? I have component on my receiver and DVD. DVD is the Sony 330 which is not progressive.

However - if I run the component cables from the dvd to the TV, I'll only get 480i right?

Whaddyathink?

The receiver does nothing to your Component output from the DVD player. Whether you run Component from your DVD to TV or DVD-Receiver-TV you will end up with the same picture either way! In the end your TV will take the 480i signal and convert it to 480p (line doubled) for display on the TV. Just realize that the 480p picture will not be nearly as good as the 480p that comes from a Progressive Scan DVD Player!

I am not sure what the technical "mumbo-jumbo" for all that but you should still run component cables from the DVD player to the TV regardless if you have a progressive scan or not. What I would recommend is to properly calibrate the television either with Avia or Video Essentials, and then save up for the next batch of Progressive Scan DVD players that should be comming out this spring.

Got it - thats my plan as well. I have Avia.

My question is basically this though :

Output from DVD : 780i (780p if progressive) right?

Input to TV : Either 1024i or 480p/i

So my 780 lines are getting axed down to 480 right?

Ravan,

DVDs are 480p, not 780. 780 does not exist. You're probably thinking of 720p which is an HDTV format. It's supposed to be superior to 1080i. I don't think your Mits. even supports 720p. That's why I was trying to steer you towards the Panasonic PT56WXF95. I also second what Frank S said. A 480i signal converted to 480p does not look as good a true 480p feed from a progressive scan player.

Got it!

Thanks!

I'll be using this for a couple of years and upgrading then, so I'm sure it's fine.

We dont even have any HDTV broadcasts here yet

But a progressive player is next on the list. Now I need to find one that can be patched to show all regions, have a lot of region 2 movies from when I lived in Denmark.

Thanks for all the input.
