mmmm, NHT 3.3's he wins on the stereo sound hands down....

I might still be able to put up a fight in the theater department. If he upgrades to VT-3's I'm dead...

Hey I got a question about all these great systems:

I still faily new to the HT game, but comfortable with audio overall. When researching and talking to folks, about 90% mentioned that it was important that your main speakers and cc were the same brand. This according to them, meant the front speakers had the same general tone, effeciency and thus would work seamless.

However, in may of these very awesome systems mentioned, folks are using a different cc then mains. Was I told wrong? Or is it like general high end audio, what is important is that YOU (the owner) likes the sound? Just curious and trying to learn

That's a nice system! I too occasionally buy used gear. It's a great way to score high-end stuff at entry-level prices. And most of the time, when you're dealing with high-end gear, the previous owner took good care of it.

I really don't want to start a fire here or offend you in any way, but would you consider using a separate transport for cds? Your system is definitely good enough to reveal the differences in transports. I had the Toshiba 2108 and didn't like it and I thought the bass was thick, and sluggish.

Not the best stuff, but i've saved some mad cash just searching the net.

I'm not in the same league as some of the earlier posters to this thread, but I'll play along for kicks.

TV: Toshiba TW56X81 16:9 HDTV Ready
Receiver: Yamaha RXV-995 DD/DTS
DVD: Toshiba SD-5109 Progressive Scan
CD: Yamaha 795 5 disk changer
DAC: Audio Alchemey V1.1
VCR: JVC Hi Fi
Tape Deck: TEAC
LD Player: Sony (old hand-me down)
Speakers: Boston Acoustics Compact Reference Series
Fronts: CR9s
Surrounds: CR6s
Center: CR2
Sub: Boston Acoustics VR500
Line Conditioner: Optimus Home Theater Power Center
Cables: Monster, Acoustic Research, RS Gold, & Sound King 12 ga. speaker cable

Someday, I plan to set up a front projection system in the basement, but for now I have a pretty decent home theater experience when I fire my system up.

The Ultimate Setup (cheesy grin)

I am a poor college student, with the most jury-rigged situation ya'll have ever seen...

TV: 19" Wal-Mart!

Receivers: Sony STR-DE335, Sony LBT G2000, and a huge Supersonic from the 60's that puts out ungodly power

Speakers:
Mains - Allegro(by Zenith)3000's,
Centers: (2) Sony no-names,
Sub - KLH ASW10,
Rears: (2) Bose Interaudio 4000, and 4 other small Bose cubes...
Also, attached to the ceiling are 2 no-name Sony's

DVD: 12x DVD drive running from my computer straight to the T.V. (no S-Video, or Component)

VCR: no-Brand VCR with no tracking controls

It's a whole lot of wires, but it can beat the hell out of all of the other guys at my school for sheer power and volume
