It's a Mitsubishi VS-5041 50" rear projection. Manufacturer's date is December of 95. A friend's Dad is looking to upgrade to an HDTV and I might be able to get it. Not sure what it's worth. Having problems finding any kind of stats on it. Only problem is there's a VCR-1 Burn in the upper right corner from them forgetting to turn it off all the time. It's fairly faint and can only be seen when the background is really light. Any ideas on value?

Probably not worth any more then $200 and that is debateable at that! You can find new 50" RPTV's for $1000 these days and they will be far superior to this old RPTV in every way such as brightness, clarity, amounts of inputs, and the biggest being warranty!

I sold that same exact set about a year ago for $700. I set that price after seeing what prices were going for on Ebay.

Anyone who pays $700 for this TV with burnin and with the price of new, superior RPTV's costing just over $1000 needs to get their head examined!

Thanks for the help. I'll see if he'll accept a couple hundred, if not, I'll just pass on it. I know that they used to leave the TV on all the time, hence the burn-in, and that really bothers me.

From researching a new one, I'm kind of thinking of either a Samsung 52" or a Toshiba 50". Or drop down to a 36" Toshiba. Any ideas? Not sure if I'd rather pay 1500" for the 50" or 900 for the 36"

If you intend to watch a lot of DVD's which have the 2.35:1 aspect ratio I would highly recommend the larger TV as the 2.35:1 DVD's can be pretty small even on a 36" TV (depending on your seating distance).

Sorry, not real high at all on the WEGAs. I bought a 36XBR250 for work last year (I work for a cable company, so got a nice TV to show off our digital cable feed in the headend to town boards). It's nice, but not worth the cash. At the time, it was 2500 from Circuit City.

Right now, I'm looking at a couple models. Probably the number1 choice right now is the Samsung PCJ533RF from 800.com. 53", Progressive Scan, 1699.94 shipped.

My second choice if I want to avoid internet/shipping, would probably be Toshiba 55A60A from Bestbuy for 1800.

Depending on what research shows up, the Toshiba TW40X81 16:9 set looks nice. It's 1888.11 from OneCall.com, but appears to be discontinued?

Any others ideas? I'd love a 16:9 set, but not sure I can find anything I can afford. So far the Samsung looks like the best bet.

You're probably right. The 40H80 sells for 2500, though.
