Since I just saw Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the theater and loved it, I have thought about buying the already available DVD in Hong Kong. But those DVD's are region 3, and I think mine is a region 1 (I'm not that caught up with DVD technology). Isn't there a chip I can buy that could enable me to play DVD's from other regions? If so, where could I buy it?

IF you have a DVD-ROM, there is a way to make it Region Free. I just can't post where to find the info...

The item you are looking for is called a "mod chip", and many places sell a modded player with the chip already installed. Prices vary, but you can buy a kit and install the chip yourself with a little soldering know-how.

Do a search on this forum, or just search the 'net for "mod chip" and you should get plenty of results. Be sure you know your player's model number. This question arises periodically, so there may be a link posted on this forum somewhere.
