What do we think of Hisense brand TVs?

I thought they were a budget brand with quality to match, but they seem to be coming up in the industry and review well.
Anyone have any experiences with one?

I have a 65" 4K DV/HDR set and think it's quite awesome. It's a 2019 model, I think, and I got it last year right before the pandemic hit. I paid $600 for it shipped from Amazon. The new 2021 models are nice and they won't break the budget. As long as you get one that does both HDR/DV you'll be ok.

Hmm, my wife is actually interested in upgrading so we can integrate our HTPC easier. Our current TV is a 4K LG, but it's several years old now.

Don't own one yet but that will be my next tv. This years models (U7G & U8G) are getting great reviews. Best bang for the buck.

They’re quickly becoming the new TCL in terms of value to dollar. I may pick one up sometime over the next year.

Wow, I guess they have come around. I wouldn't mind adding a few inches of viewing area, we only have a 60" right now.

thanks

And all of these qualify for the try/return promo? I may have to for that 75U7G.

Re: What do we think of Hisense brand TVs?

I got this one from Best Buy on Black Friday for $399. 70H6570G

For the price I paid, I'm happy with it. But overall I'm not that impressed with it. Biggest problem I have is the HDMI switching. I had to turn off control other hdmi devices (CEC) on every device. Had to leave it on, on the TV so that I could at least get ARC sound to work through surround sound. Otherwise it kept switching to the wrong one, or would turn on other devices. Still can't get my Sony UHD player to work(it powers on and switch switches to it's port by itself), have to unplug it when I'm not using it. I'm using a 4k HDMI switch going to port 2, and port 1 is connected to my surround sound with ARC. There was an OS update awhile back that seemed to make it worse. Now it identifies (usually incorrectly) what devices is on, and all are labeled port 2. I could hit "help" on my Harmony and it would set everything back correctly, but then when the other device powers off, it would switch again. My old Sony Bravia did not have this problem when using a switch and CEC was on all devices. I even tried a different switch because that was the only other thing that changed besides the TV and UHD player.

It's my first 4k tv, so I have nothing to compare it too, but picture wise I'm not that impressed with it either. It looks pretty good, but not great. Even in total darkness at night. I still can't make out those shows that are completely black. It's in a very bright room that faces south, so during the day it just looks good. Now I have noticed a few movies that look phenomenal though. District 9 comes to mind. And almost any scene in space lol.
It has an automated Enhanced viewing mode which detects what you are watching and adjusts picture accordingly. The problem is there's no way to manually set it to "Sports", "Movie", etc and it keeps changing back and forth from scene to scene if on auto. Apparently they are also recording everything that you have on and you have to give consent to turn it on.

I have a bluetooth transmitter connected to the headphone jack, and Sound output set to Headphones + Speakers. But there's no way to control the head phone out volume unless you switch to Headphone only, variable. With both on, I just have to mute the TV(surround sound) and only sound will come through headphones. But if it's set to output to both as soon as you adjust the volume the speakers come on, and headphone volume doesn't change.

Built in Chromcast is nice too

If you wait until around February thereabouts, you can see these models go even cheaper - like 20 - 30 percent cheaper as they make way for the new models.

Yeah, I think we might hold off a bit. Maybe wait for the Black Friday or something.

That's why I waited for the TCL 2020 models. But this year TCL raised all their 2020 models by $300+. And here we are Oct 2021 & the 2020 TCL models have not gone down in price and are the same price
as the 2021 TCL models. Not sure how TCL thiinks they are going to get rid of those 2020 models for the same prices as the 2021 ones..

Well yeah, as they do every year. But the end of year prices may not be lower than these now. And now we get the benefit of try and return if we don’t like it.

If you simply want a working screen, they provide serviceable quality. I wasn't impressed with the one I picked up last Black Friday for a rarely used bedroom, it was a monstrous step down from my far more expensive LG.

We have an LG now and it’s pretty good but it’s older and just not as nice as we’d like for interconnectedness.

Re: What do we think of Hisense brand TVs?

Like anything else, they're commodity, throwaway products at this point, and you should purchase accordingly. If you get a couple of good, trouble-free use out of any modern electronic device, including TVs, consider yourself lucky. Spending big bucks on any electronics item, especially now is foolish, given that you'll probably need to replace that expensive product in a couple of years anyway. So, products like Hisense TVs make a great deal of sense. Quality isn't up to the highest-end models, but you're essentially "renting" any new TV you buy, because they're Designed To Fail (tm), via the Planned Obsolesence dogma.

Further, we'll never see pre-pandemic prices again. Basically, take whatever was a fair price in early 2020, add 20-30% and that'll be the "new normal" going forward. It's awful, but it's with us permanently, I'm afriad. Deals will be few and far between.

If you're rich, none of the above applies to you, of course.

(More generally).

Some electronic stuff isn't even worth buying at all, such as the dvr boxes used by cable / satellite services (ie. tivo, etc ...). The service and/or technical specs changes so fast, that the older boxes are completely useless in spite of not abruptly dying. They essentially become "quasi-functonal bricks" in a "schiavo state", once the service/technical specs change.

Anyone have a 43” (roundabout) TV they’ve recently purchased that they love? Any recommendations? I haven’t gotten one this small before, but I’m putting it in a guest bedroom. Curious to hear what people have and their thoughts.
