It seems as though I am not the only one having the same problem with my Pioneer reciever overloading and shutting off when I try to pump the volume up a little. Has anyone heard anything about this? Maybe anything specific to Pioneer recievers? Is there a fix or something I can do? I dont think its my speakers theyre pretty decent. The thing is driving me crazy. HT GODS HELP!!!

I know someone with an ONKYO receiver that auto shuts off when it overheats, so it probably isn't specific to Pioneer.

Do you have a powered subwoofer? If not, when you "try to pump up the volume a little", you might be pushing your receiver to hard, causing it to trip and shut down.

Yes its a powered Cerwin-Vega. It wasnt a powered sub before and I thought that was the problem but alas it is not.

Do you have a matched set of speakers for it? I just recently got a Pioneer receiver, and it overloaded on me all the time when I had old, crappy speakers plugged in. Then I bought a new set of KLH speakers and it hasn't overloaded on me since.

Yes all matched all Cambridge sounds works, except for the sub. but the same happend with the cambridge sub.

I have Pioneer VSX D509s and have had it over heat when listening to CDs using the Pro-logic setting. After I added a sub the problem was gone. Maybe try changing your main speakers to large if they're not already.

I've never had a problem watching movies with it.

Set on large http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/frown.gif I think its time to start shopping..

if the speakers are set to large, doesn't that avoid using the sub unless you set the sub to extra (i think that's the setting name on the 509). i think the default settings don't push much bass out of the sub if you set the speakers to large... could that be causing the problem?

check the polarity of your speaker wires. pretty tough to mess up, but we're all fallible. seems like i saw a wire check fixing a similar problem on audioreview.

i push my 509 pretty hard, and it barely gets warm, so it's also possible that you have a defective unit.
