Please recommend 4K BR Player
Looking to purchase a 4K BR player . Budget is around $200. Not familiar with these machines at all. Please give me some recommendations, thanks.

Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
I picked up a Sony UBP-x700 for $130 this month. Are there better players out there? Probably, but I'm happy.

Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
I'm going for the X800. I need Super Audio and DVD Audio support.

The X700 is on sale on Amazon for $128 & supports Dolby Vision unlike the 800. It also supports SACD & DVD-A. Anything I should know before ordering?

X800m2 supports Dolby Vision. I don't see that X700 supports DVD Audio in the description.
So the 800m2 is different from the 800? |
Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
The 800m2 is the newer version. Dolby Vision support is one of the biggest additions.

Haven't had much free time to research right now. But upscaling blu-rays too a nice picture is important. The clowns at Best Buy are not much help. They say the Panasonic is the better player because it price is reduce more. |

Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
Just know that with the x700, you need to turn Dolby Vision on and off manually for DV content. Just setting it to ON will add Dolby Vision to ALL content, which as you can imagine, looks ridiculous. So, when watching a DV disc, you have to navigate the menus and switch DV on, then remember to go back to the menus when finished with the movie and turn DV back off. Not a huge deal, but a bit annoying.

Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
I had an x800 purchased two years ago and it just crapped out. Bad laser, doesn't recognize disc. The player was always slow to respond to input and frankly I'm disappointed it lasted for only two years of light use.

Juts sold my Pioneer BDP-52FD on ebay & ordered the x700 from Amazon for $128 + tax.

Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
The Sony is a better buy. The Panny doesn't support SACD or Dolby Vision. But the upscaling of dvds and blu-rays gets lots of good feedback. Update Bought the LG UBK90 tonight at Costco was $10 off @$140,but today was the last day of sale.Going to have to do until next year as I'm getting a switch for the family, that should burn through some $100's fast. |
Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
I just got my first BR UHD disc today (Predator) & can't seem to get HDR working. I have the Sony connected to my Pioneer VSX 1122 receiver which is connected to a TCL TV. The HDR indicator isn't showing on the TV. When I press display on the UHD player it reads HDR-->SDR. Can anyone help? Thanks!
Update: I connected the UHD player directly to the TV & now HDR works so it looks like the receiver doesn't passthrough 4K/HDR which surprises me. Fortunately, the player has a separate HDMI port for audio so I'm going to have to use that port to connect to the receiver because the TV doesn't passthrough DTS-MA through ARC, just the DTS core track Update: Now that the player is connected directly to the TV I'm getting a lot of screen flickering which according to Amazon reviews is a common issue with this machine. |

Thanks,I'm not very tech savvy. On the Sony UBP-X800M2 ,lots of owners do not like you have to manually switch the dv option.
But the upscaling of dvds and blu-rays gets lots of good feedback. I would be disappointed too, that is not long enough. My PS3 still works fine, but our family room blu-ray player quit working. It was either a Sony or Samsung. Enjoy. and maybe some feedback latter on. I might just go with the LG UBK90 from Costco the only player they sell right now and easy returns if I do not like. And buy a better player next year. Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
Very happy with the Sony . Even though my Pioneer (VSX-1122) 2013 model receiver is still going strong & had no plans on upgrading, when I realized it wouldn't pass through 4K/HDR, I upgraded to a Pioneer Elite VSX-LX104 (knowing I could've just connected the video directly to the TV to get 4K/HDR). I also had no plans on an ATMOS setup but the receiver supports it so I'm thinking about adding some ceiling speakers now.

Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
The LG UBK90 does pretty good, especially with upsampling regular BDs to 4K. One issue I'm having is connecting to my router, but I'm sure I'm missing something simple. LG doesn't make it particularly easy to connect.

Are any of the models that are commonly sold at Best Buy or Target any good?

Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
^^I could’ve sworn I seen that Sony model for a lot cheaper before. Like $130 or so.
Are all 4k players created equal in the PQ dept. is what I want to know? I only have the el cheapo Philips player (model 5502), only paid like $60 shipped for it. I know it doesn’t do Dolby Vision but only 2 of my paltry 15 titles have it according to my Blu-ray collection tracker (Bumblebee and A Simple Favor). |

Re: Please recommend 4K BR Player
The one I just got is kind of obnoxiously expensive -- the Panasonic UB-820 -- but if you don't need Dolby Vision, the UB-420 is basically the same thing at a fraction of the cost.

Once I get my 4K TV & Stand delivered, I might pick up the UB-420. |
