That's how much I paid for mine at Costco before taxes. The $650 I mentioned was after CA Taxes (about $50).

Still enjoying the new set. It's been fun watching new/old 4K BDs, BDs & DVDs on it.

For anyone who has a Vizio TV, should I have Film Mode on or off?

Film Mode, previously known as Pure Cinema on Vizio TVs, is the option used to remove judder from 24p sources, including most movies played from a Blu-ray player. The Reduce Signal Noise and Reduce Block Noise under the Reduce Noise tab were both left off for calibration purposes.

No, this "Film Mode" provides non-judder 24 fps support. On my LG, it's called "Real Cinema".

Just picked up the Sony 900H from Costco yesterday. $969 with a five year warranty. I made sure it worked, but I have to wait until my Friday the 13th set shows up so I can watch part 3 in 3D before I swap my TVs around.
I watched a few minutes of Empire Strikes Back and Guardians Of The Galaxy in 4k off Disney+. It looked good but it’s going to be an adjustment coming from a plasma.
I’m borrowing a uhd player for the weekend to try out dvd and blu-ray content to see how that looks before I make my final decision.
I’ve been researching TVs for two years to find the right one and was dead set on an oled. I was planning on going to Canada in May to pick up a Panasonic, but covid happened and fucked everything up and now Panasonic pulled out of Canada too. I considered the Lg Cx, but I realized I’m sick of babying my tv. After owning plasmas for 10 years I want to not worry about burn in anymore. I would have had that risk for the Panasonic, but it would have been worth it.
I could have waited to see if micro-led is going to be a thing worth getting next year, but Dawn Of The Dead forced my hand. With that and the Thing coming out in Spring, I had to be able to watch two of my three favorite movies in 4k.

That's too bad. I went from a Panasonic Plasma to an LG C8 OLED a couple years back, and it was a substantial upgrade. I don't worry about burn-in on the OLED any more so than I did on the Plasma and have had zero problems with either one. Black levels on the Panny Plasma were good, but on the OLED it is just downright gorgeous.

I initially decided to post because I watched the Criterion Blu-Ray of The Silence of the Lambs and some of scenes looked a bit strange to my eyes.

Thought that maybe I had left something on that I should have turned off.

You want the Film Mode On, but you definitely want any sort of "Smooth Motion" setting set OFF.

Is that the same as Clear Motion on my Vizio set? If so, I have that turned off.

I thought it was weird too.

Since getting my 4K TV & 4K Player in March, I only noticed these sort of moments in the Inception BD as well as some random moments in The Silence of the Lambs Criterion BD.

I'm looking to get a replacement TV very soon. I'm currenly using a 55" Samsung 4k tv.

I care about picture quality, and spend a lot of time setting up the custum picture so my tvs aren't over-bright with blown-out colors and over-darkened contrast.

Also, I watch a lot of stuff, so my TV is running 7 or 8 hours a day.

I love the picture and black levels on Samsung models. But, I got totally burned by the grey patches showing up on my current tv within a year. I've heard this is a common problem for Samsung models now.

I do not want to pay more than $500, so would like to look for models during Prime Day or Black Friday.

So, I'm looking for recommendations on good models or manufacturers currently offering good picture and contrast for a 50-55" model that can endure large amounts of use.

Also, most smart tvs have them all already, but if it matters, I use Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Prime & Amazon Music, and to a lesser extent CBS and Peacock.

Yes, they are now discontinued. I found a store that is selling it in Toronto but the cost is a huge deterrent for me even though the reviews are excellent.

Why So Blu?

I think the Hi-Sense 4K TVs are pretty awesome and some models have HDR10 and Dolby Vision. They are Android based, as well. I own a 65 inch one. It's awesome.

I'm been serious thinking about picking up the Hisense 58" Class 4K UHD LED Roku Smart TV HDR 58R6E3 ($278.00) from Walmart. Been watching a bunch of videos on youtube.
One concern is all the negative reviews about broken screens with shipping & even pick=up in-store.

Look at the shape of this box from someone who brought this from in the Walmart store.

Why So Blu?

I've had mine since February and I got it from Amazon. Since I didn't pay for the in-home delivery set-up/option -- the delivery guy carried it from his freight truck and handed it to me at the door. It was light enough for me to carry into the house. I'm shocked at how light it was. Seems like the box and packing materials are heavier than the tv sets themselves.

I have had a cheap Hisense 50" HDTV for about 3 years, and have had no problems (fingers crossed). The only thing I would suggest is to unplug the unit if you plan to go away. I found this out the hard way a couple of years ago. While I was away, we had a blackout, after which the TV turned on and remained on for about two weeks in my absence. Luckily, no damage or burn-in. I now always unplug it before going away.

Is the TCL 6-series still highly recommended?

It's usually at the top or aT least in the top five 4K TV'S FOR 2020.

I went with the Sony 900h or well the Costco version. I don’t love it, but for $1000 it’s very good. Coming from my plasma, I doubt I would have been happy with anything.
4k stuff looks great. Dvd’s not so much. Those looked better on the Panasonic.

Once you get a taste of those deep blacks, it's hard to go back.

That said, the 900H is a damn good set. One of the few with HDMI 2.1 4K 120fps support.
