55"-65" recommendations

With prices dropping madly it's really time to upgrade my faitfhul Panasonic plasma - and I have been out of touch of what the hot shit manufacturer/models are these days.
If anyone cares to mention any recent purchases they LOVE I would appreciate the updated pointers.

Looking to bump up from current 50" into 55-65 range.
Price range: would like to keep it under 1200

Thanks!

Check out the TCL 6 series for both 55” and 65”. Well worth it and great quality. People love Vizio, but I had 3 bad experiences with their TV’s, so I can’t vouch for them.

50" - 55" Hisense H8F or the just released 65" Hisense H9F for $899.99.

I'm waiting to see if the 55" H9F will be released.

Costco offers 5 year manufacturer warranties on some Samsung models. Others they offer free extended Squaretrade warranties, in case that is important to you. The TVs are generally price fixed across all sellers, so it's an extra perk that Costco can offer.

As an example for Noonan's TV he just posted, here is Costco's listing

I just picked up an LG OLED and it's outrageously good in picture quality, better than my calibrated plasma displays. UHDs and 4K sources absolutely shine.

Seconded. Got a B7 from Costco last year - easily the best looking display I've owned.

If you're coming from a plasma, I feel like anything other than an OLED is going to leave you disappointed with black level. The LG OLED black levels are nice and inky. I wound up paying about $2250 for mine when they were closing out last year's model - 65".

Iíve been watching prices on OLEDís myself for this exact reason. I think next year is when Iíll finally pull the trigger. Itís a shame Panasonic left the market.

I ended up getting a LG 65" OLED E8 from Beach Camera for $1749 for my mom. They had some crazy $948 coupon for their Ebay store over the weekend.

Re: 55"-65" recommendations

Just curious, is it worth almost double the price going from a 55" OLED to a 65"? We are about to purchase our first 4K TV, so we've been keeping an eye out on prices and a local store has the 55" C8 on sale this week for $999. But it's close to $2K for the 65". Thoughts?

Re: 55"-65" recommendations

I always thought that the higher the resolution, the larger the tv would need to be to truly notice the difference.

Depends on what you have now. The cool part about OLED's is that the TV's have no frame around it, so the picture goes right to the edge. This often makes the TV look a bit bigger. So the 55" looks bigger than the measurement states. In relation, the 65" look much bigger. IMO, the hype is there for OLED, but I don't think it's miles above others that are cheaper. Yes, you'll get that long sought after perfect black levels, but there are drawbacks as well. Google them if you feel inclined to. I never felt the urge to jump on an OLED, as spectacular as they can look, but if you search other TV's and read their reviews, they're not that far apart.

And if you can wait until the 2020 models come out, there's supposed to be more OLED's rolling out from non-LG makers, which may start driving down the price a bit.

I set up the E8 for my mom this weekend and after playing around with the settings, the picture was very dim, no matter the picture mode setting. Finally found "Energy Saving Mode" set to Auto. I disabled that, and boom, nice bright picture. Now I need to figure out how to disable the power on and power off chime. It's very loud.
