Please can anyone tell how to tell if my speakers are in phase. Thank You

your speakers are in phase if they are wired correctly(negative output of speaker to negative input of reciever, positive out on speaker to positive in on speaker). If those connections are reversed, the speakers will be out of phase and won't fire correctly.

Please elaborate.

I think it depends on your interpretation when dfbennett says "the speakers...won't fire correctly."
