2. See if your homeowners Insurance policy will cover the loss, but be sure to check if filing that small claim will result in a vastly increased home insurance bill for years to come!.

Good luck...
Thanks for the suggestions. I've already tried both. Power co. specialist told me he would investigate a claim, but that it wouldn't be granted per policy. I was somewhat shocked to learn that my home owners ins co deductible is $900!

I think that most homeowners’ insurance policies probably wouldn’t cover $264; I’d wager most deductibles don’t kick in until your claim is at least $500.

As usual with these types of things, you're paying big bucks for insurance that you can't actually use for ~90% of claims (ie, the sundry stuff that might be small claims, but it's out of pocket expenses, nonetheless). Essentially, you're stuck with catastophic insurance, and the insurnace companies know this, and limit your policy accordingly. It's a huge racket, of course.

Yep. Mine is apparently so bad because I'm in a (fairly nice) mobile & in Wa state only 1 co insures mobiles, so they can get away with whatever they want to. I'm on their "top plan", & I knew they still would only offer $39k personal property replacement coverage (not nearly enough), but when I had a "real" house, my personal property had a 0 deductable, so I totally didn't expect this. While I wasn't told about the high deductible, I also didn't ask; so part of it is on me.

Re: My Power Went Out Last Night....... And It Took My Oppo With It

Back in the 90s, my Hitachi CRT went out during a "brown out", which is when the power doesn't go completely out but just reduces the level so nothing will work. Was watching the still-frame supplements on the Criterion "Short Cuts" laserdisc when the TV went off and made sounds like it was trying to turn itself back on as most other stuff in the apartment also went off. The TV wouldn't turn on again after the power was back to normal, and I was without it (or any TV) for several weeks while it was fixed. Was under warranty so didn't cost me anything, but sure pissed me off being without it for that long (though I at least still had free access to the movie theater I worked at!) The letterboxed laserdisc of "Time Bandits" (one of my absolute favorite movies) was released during the time the TV was out, so it was maddening having to wait to see how it looked after picking it up on release day.

That's weird... Sounds like their policy is that they won't take responsibility for something, even if it is their fault.
