Ceiling mounted TV

I want to mount a large LCD TV directly above my bed so I can lie flat on my bed and watch TV. LG says they won't warranty their TV's if mounted to a ceiling and oriented face down. Does anyone know if there is a brand of HD TV or 4K TV that can be mounted on a ceiling, facing down? Does anyone know why this would be a problem? Thanks.

Re: Ceiling mounted TV

Welcome to the forum....? I doubt any TV manufacturer would keep a TV under warranty if you did that for very obvious reasons. My suggestion would be to buy a projector and bounce the image onto a mirror to the ceiling.

This is so weird...

Re: Ceiling mounted TV

I have had negative experiences with projectors. I have an engineering background, so I am not worried about mounting the TV securely so it won't fall on me. Thanks for answering though.

This can be so easily achievable if the tv set was flat like a paper. I believe LG is the only manufacturer that has produced really flat OLED tv sets.

I 2nd vouch that this strange setup is weird

Re: Ceiling mounted TV

I know of no such TV that's warranted when mounted in that fashion, but did the requisite googling required to understand that this is a thing, and am replying to keep the thread active in case someone else knows of such a TV.

You might also just send out a few emails to the warranty department of TV manufacturers that you like, asking the same question.

I know there are a lot out there, but maybe worth a shot?

Dude has an engineering background, so that won't ever happen...

Re: Ceiling mounted TV

When flat panels were introduced I recall a commercial where a couple was laying on a bed and the tv was mounted flat on the ceiling. I don't remember the brand, though.

Edit: Found it.

Re: Ceiling mounted TV

Impressive you found the commercial!
Yes, that is what I am talking about.
I want to put an LG 65" OLED TV on the ceiling. I talked to LG. They recommended against doing so, but didn't give any reason other than the TV might fall on me, which I am sure I can address.

I have a 65" OLED and it weighs less than 50 lbs. without the stand.

Re: Ceiling mounted TV

As long as you screw the fixtures securely into the ceiling joists, you'll be fine.

It's weird, because we totally jumped the gun on the Thread of All Time award, now that this is here.

*ahem* What reason, beyond this very real and potentially fatal reason, are you looking for?!
