Major Upgrades

A series 8000 Samsung 4K 49" TV, a Samsung 450 soundbar, and a Samsung 6300 upscaling Blu-Ray player.

I am slowly buying Blu-Ray movies to replace my favorite DVD movies (Gladiator, J.Bourne trilogy, Batman Trilogy, Braveheart, Forrest Gump, Casino Royale, etc.).

It is like seeing these movies for the first time. Incredible!!!

What is way cool, is that I bought a 5000 series Samsung TV (for $297), back in Feb of 2018, that died after a month. I had to make numerous calls, and wait >6 weeks for Samsung to honor their warrantee, which they finally did with the 8000 series replacement. Wow!!!

Re: Major Upgrades

You should see some of those movies in 4k UHD. Great looking stuff.

Re: Major Upgrades

I don't want to be tempted.

I once owned a 46" LG HDTV and an early Blu-ray player, and felt that the DVDs looked fine on the set, no reason to upgrade. The 4K with the upscaling Blu-ray player is a big step up.

I did watch the DVD movie Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood, and it has to be the worst transfer I have ever seen. The blue sky shimmered(?) in every outdoor scene on the 4K set. I never notice it being so awful before.

What surprises me is that the Blu-Ray is often times the same price as the DVDs. Of course DVDs are now a $1 each at nearly all garage sales anymore. I have bought more DVDs this year then I have in the last 10 years. In mint condition, disk and packaging for a $1. Cool!

Re: Major Upgrades

The Unforgiven remaster in 4K is amazing looking, almost reference. Maybe check your settings or check out some calibrations for your TV.

Also, many 4K titles do go on sale that are cheaper than the blu’s.

Re: Major Upgrades

Braveheart Sapphire Series is my new reference Blu-Ray movie. Incredible bass when Wallace descends down upon the outpost to avenge his wife's murder. There was one small tiny little glitch in the play, but other then that crystal clear video and one of the best movies I own.

I cannot get past the long script that the site forces on me to load the page. I get a screens worth and then it pretty much kills my browser.

Thanx for that.
After reading the video review, I put this on my Must-Buy-List.

Unforgiven is one of my all time fav Westerns.
