I'm looking to buy an entry level DVD player (Panasonic RV30, Pioneer 333, Toshiba 1600) and I would like to bring along some DVDs to test play-ability. I hear that The Matrix is one that can have trouble playing track 10.

Any other suggestions on DVDs (or even suggestions on DVD Players)?

Thanks!

You may want to bring along a DVD with seamless-branching (ie. T2: Ultimate Edition).

I concur with Bartley. Seamless branching seems to be the new thing that some low end players have trouble with(Apex, Oritron, etc). The Abyss is also a seamless branching title(I can't think of any others besides T2:UE and Abyss though).

OK, can you help with the spot in T2 where I would have to go to see the problem? Or is it a problem even playing the disk?

Another seamless brancher -- XMen.

The DVD has a booklet that lists all of the "new" materials with their chapter number. Just play the "Special Edition" and skip to a chapter right before the "new" material and check to see if it plays seamlessly. (This would work the same for any seamlessly branched movie, but T2 is a good choice.)

X Men does not use seemless branching. It basically takes specific scenes and incorporates them into various parts of the film.
