Does anyone happen to know if the PS2 will play VCDs. I am aware that most DVD players will, but I was not sure of if the PS2 would or not. Thanks for the help http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

Has anyone tested this? I personally can not, because I do not own a VCD. I am wanting to buy a set of VCDs and do not want to waste the money if it doesn't work.

I don't own a PS2 but I remember reading that while the PS1 required an addon card to playback VCDs that the new PS2 did NOT require any such addon.

Remember, the video decoder in the PS2 is MPEG2 and this baby is from Japan... of course it plays VCDs. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

Here is a link to a VCD related site that confirms that the PS2 plays VCDs and PC Burned (CD-R) VCDs.

The PS2 does not play VCDs. I have tried several. This is really odd since all standard Sony DVD players play VCDs. Guess it was a cost cutting measure.
