Just ordered a TCL 43S515 from BB for $199.99 (Deal of the Day). Had a $50 GC to burn. So decided to buy it & probably will use this as a computer monitor also.

Same prices on Best Buy except the 75" is $1299.99. Of course Amazon has the model with the better remote control.

If that 75" version get around $1000 or less, there is probably no way I can pass on it...:gah:

Still hoping for the magic $999 number, but even with my sales tax, it will still be over 1K in terms of price. I'll probably end up getting the 65" at some point before summer's end.

I'm not, decided to give it to one of my daughters & husband. Their bedroom tv just broke & I'll probably pick up maybe a 55" or 65" 6 series.
I'm just worried about all the problems I'm reading about with not getting a good panel (DSE).

E Unit 06-12-19 03:11 PM

Re: TCL Tv's

Well like I mentioned a while back, you’ll more than likely experience some DSE, but for my panel, I’d say it’s noticeable less than 5% of the entire time I use it. Mostly when the screen is 100% white, which is little to none. Even snowy scenes in movies look good. I also watch a good amount of live TV on Hulu and pretty much all of it looks good to great.

Re: TCL Tv's

The past 2 weeks they have had the 43" & 49" 5 series on sale for the Deal of the Day. So next week
maybe the the 55" model will be on sale. It it's under $320 I just might bite on that model.

I also been thinking about buying either the the 55" Hisense H8F or Hisense H9F. Just notice BB DOTD
is the 55" Hisense H8F for $449.99. $50 of their price of $499.99.

They also show up on Woot, but that's a luck a of the draw type of thing since they have limited quantities.

Best Buy has the TCL 75" (75S425) 4K Led 4 series for $799.99. Make sure you are logged in to see lower price.

Re: TCL Tv's

So I'm a new owner of the 49 inch 5 series (I couldn't justify bigger for the playroom but if I did go 55 I would have done 6 series) but it seems like the Roku disconnects from wireless whenever I turn the tv off. Anyone notice this? Someone mentioned turning off the power save mode so I'll try that.

I had the same problem. I fixed it using the instructions here:

https://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?t=109966

Basically, you enable Fast TV Start in the System > Power settings. It maintains the network connection to install updates while in standby mode.

Fast TV Start (Roku TV only) – You can now choose to enable Fast TV Start on your Roku TV to more quickly start your TV from standby, wake your TV with a voice command using the voice remote or Roku mobile app, and install software updates while in standby. To toggle Fast TV Start on or off, go to Settings > System > Power and click on Fast TV Start to enable/disable the feature at any time.

Ah, I think that's the setting I changed, but I think it overrides any power savings feature. I'll give it a try though, thanks!

Re: TCL Tv's

A week or two ago the screen on my 55" TCL Roku TV (model 55S405) went dark in the middle of me watching something, but I could still get the audio. I followed the official troubleshooting tips I found online - among the first steps it said to do Roy's ol' "unplug it and plug it back in" trick - and it went back to normal. This morning it did it again. Tried unplugging/plugging it again several times, but the screen would only be up for a moment before going dark. So I did the very last troubleshooting tip (a factory reset) and that worked all day. Until just now. Grrrrrr.

The TV isn't even 2 years old yet, so I'd rather not buy a new one. I'm busy tonight, but I'll be calling customer service tomorrow, if they're open. Has anyone had this problem before?

I haven't heard of that problem before. But you might want to try the Roku Forum. They're very helpful.

https://forums.roku.com/viewforum.php?f=28

I've also gotten some good support & tips from the Roku Reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Roku/

These TCL Roku TVs are pretty popular. So it's easy to find support from other people that have had similar problems.

I haven’t experienced any issues of that kind, but I also have a newer Series 6. Not sure how much they have changed their builds over the past couple of years.

Thanks. Other folks on Reddit have experienced this issue. It *might* be fixable with a $25 part, but I've never replaced a board before, nor have I ever tinkered with a TV, so I don't think I'd trust myself. I got off the phone with TCL customer support a little while ago. Since I'm out of warranty there's nothing they could do for me. (The CSR said he was going to run it up the ladder and call me back if they could give me an exemption, but I'm not holding my breath.)

For the time being I've been leaving it unplugged until I want to watch it. The TV will be fine for a while, then go black again. So I guess I'll be buying a new one. Good thing they're relatively cheap these days. Now I'm just trying to decide if upgrading to the 500 or 600 series will be worth it. And pray their quality control has improved. (I have the wireless Roku speakers - which are great! - so I'm kind of locked in to Roku TV.)

If you're going to buy it at Amazon, check out their warranties. When I bought my TV ($430), I got a 4-year Square Trade warranty for around $20.

Re: TCL Tv's

Hoping someone could help me out with a slight problem I'm having with my 55S405. During very light scenes, I notice a vertical line, which looks like some type of interference, that scrolls from the bottom of the screen to the top. What confuses me though is that it's only there when I'm either watching TV through my Tivo or YouTube using the built in Roku app. If watching a Blu-Ray or using my home theater PC it's not there. All devices (Tivo, BR player, HTPC) are all connected to a receiver through HDMI. Normally I'd bypass the receiver and connect directly to the TV to see if that fixes the issue, but like I said it's there when using the TV's built in YouTube app. Anyone have any suggestions?

I picked up this TV over the weekend and got it mounted on Saturday afternoon... beautiful TV so far. I've not really stressed it with much content but setup was a breeze and 75" is the right size for a room that had a projector but was a bit overkill.

Any more updates? I'm very interested in this TV. Have you noticed any jailbars or DSE that the smaller models had? What are your overall impressions?
