Onkyo HT-R391- Replacement Center Speaker Suggestions
I've had my Onkyo HT-R391 system for over two years and the center speaker is starting to die. Some sounds make it crackle badly or just sound funky. Especially actors whose voices are deep.
I moved the center wires to two other speakers to try them out. No crackle or distortion. Only from the center speaker.
I reached out to Onkyo and before replacing the speaker, they recommended getting newer and thicker gauge speaker wire. I did that over the weekend and there were no changes in the sound coming out of that speaker.
SO - I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement speaker. I was just going to buy the same model but I can't find it online anywhere (SKC-391).
The Onkyo rep said I could get a center speaker that is 130 watts at 6 ohms.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Do they sell speakers separately at Frys or Best Buy? I've been trolling Ebay but nothing great yet.

Yes you can most definetly buy a seperate center channel speaker from most audio/video suppliers.
You have ruled out the wiring but I would also suggest ruling out a problem with the amp/receiver by swapping any other speaker to the center channel as a short term test. If the problem follows the speaker its clearly bad, proceed with replacement. You do not need to match specs but ensure you can handle the max watts out of amp (you say 130 watts) so use that as a minimum power level for speaker.
One budget priced is the Polk Audio CS10 Center Channel Speaker around $100 on amazon.
