more specifically, my parents have a 5.1 HT setup. They are both getting more deaf. They won't get hearing aids, and don't want to use individual headphones. Is there anything I can get that will allow me to add an additional 2 speakers wirelessly to have closer to where each one sits? I still want the audio to come out of the existing system, but with the addition of 2 more wireless units?

So they want to go to a 7.1 surround system? Or just want 2 additional speakers in the house? What's their primary purpose for using them, watching movies? Music? What are they using now? The receiver may be limited to the 5.1 setup already.

I know a few years ago a friend got wireless speakers that had a transmitter that was wired to the receiver thru the usual two wire speaker wire. If such a thing is still around, you could add two speakers and mirror two of the regular 5.1 speakers, closer to the seating area.

this is exactly what I think they would like. I'd like to essentially mirror the center channel to two other wireless speakers near where they sit, so they can hear the voices better.

can you get a link of what he used? I can't seem to find anything like that online.

primary purpose is movies and tv. would like to mimic the center channel to other wireless speakers located to where they each respectively usually sit so the voices are clearer for them. They don't really care about "surround sound" anymore, they just want clear voices and SOME sound f/x & music.

Unfortunately I cant seem to find anything like it now. Everything now seems to be bluetooth, and designed for phones. Closest I could find is a bluetooth transmitter that connects to an set of RCA outputs, which wont work exactly for your purposes.

What my friend had was a home theater in a box deal with wireless "rear" speakers. I say "rear" because those were the speaker outputs that he wired the transmitter to.
