I have a Denon 1500 DVD player which I thought was multi-zone, however I just bought 'The Patriot' - zone 1 - from Amazon and find that it is RCE protected so it won't play on my player - we are zone 4 in Australia. Has anyone else encountered the same problem and if so is there a work around?

Your player is a multi-region player but this new RCE has been designed to defeat that. So until, people "out there" come up with a new way to modify players so they play RCE discs then you're outta luck I believe...

This RCE is a new and improved system to stop hacked DVD players from playing disks from a different region. How it works is the encoding is layered so the disk sends out a false regional code different from the the proper one. If the player is hacked to be open region takes it the player knows something is wrong because the player should come back saying it is a region #1 player. It's basically tricking the player to say the wrong answer so it gives itself away as a hacked player. Codefreedvd.com claims their multi-region enhanced players can deal with the new RCE system.
