I have been visiting the forums here regularly and in all my lurking I have learned an incredible amount of information but now I have a question I would like to pose. This is my first post so hopefully I won't mess it up!
I have a few DVD's (about 400) and would like to experience them in all their glory. So I am looking for a widescreen TV that I might be happy with. I have a Toshiba 5109 Progressive scan player and want to use it to its capability. Specifically I am looking at a choice between a Samsung SLK407W or the Toshiba TW40x81 although it is possible I have overlooked other options in this price range. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, and or experiance with these TV's? Any input would be appreciated. Oh, I would be watching DVD's about 80% of the time on this TV and splitting the remainder between PS2 games and Direct TV. Thank you for all the wonderful posts I have read in the past and especially the ones I hope to read in response to this one! |
I don't know if your only intersted in the 40" models, but I was looking at a 34" Sharp
There is some info about it here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/uub/...ML/003660.html A search on the HTF in the TV area will likely yield some good info regarding the models you specified. |

Just Under 3K (2700 or so?) found it on mysimon yesterday while looking at the Toshiba model above and can't find it today. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/confused.gif

Present Toshiba model is not the TW40X81 but the 40H80. It features a new line doubler, improved remote, and assorted minor upgrades... same cabinet form, however.
I thought long and hard about which widescreen I would purchase before picking up my 40H80; I was NOT a big fan of projection TVs, AT ALL. That said, I am EXTRAORDINARILY HAPPY that I got the 40H80 and not a smaller tube widescreen. Two reasons: 1. As much as I hate rear projection, there is absolutely no doubt that I have a better looking image from an RPTV under the proper conditions. The 40H80 when properly calibrated and watching in the dark from a high-resolution source truly looks like film. 2. 40" isn't as big as you think it is. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ I've found Classicman's level of political understanding, and I'm living far above it! buy.com sux, did you calibrate your TV yourself or do they have ISF techs in your area?

I looked several places with no luck, that is why I was hoping you had a price. Thanks |
