I purchased (less the 1 year ago) a Toshiba 3107 DVD player and 36" Toshiba TV together as an upgrade to my system. Since then I have also purchased a small 32" Toshiba television and an inexpensive Sony DVD player. I started having problems about 3 months ago with some DVD's not playing in my Toshiba, but working fine in the Sony. I contact Toshiba and they notified me that there is a common problem in many Toshiba DVD players, the players can not handle dual layer Disc correctly all the time. This was a problem in the manufacuring of the players and could be corrected with a Chip change. Toshiba then informed me that this modification can only be done by 1 third party and would cost ME in both the repair ($49.95) and shipping (to and from), with 4-6 weeks without my Toshiba DVD player. Since then I have been exchanging dialog with Toshiba's support but have only gotten a poor response from Toshiba. Are others having this problem and has anyone been able to get Toshiba to cover the repair cost? Since this is a manufacuring problem I feel this should be corrected by Toshiba at thier cost. With the current responses from Toshiba, I am nearly at the point of going with another brand and forgetting Toshiba for any future purchases. I asked Toshiba if they could purchase back the Television and DVD player, but they refused - which doesnt give me that happy Toshiba customer type of feeling. If anyone has had any luck dealing with this problem with Toshiba, please let me know so that I could possibly use that as a reference to get Toshiba to do the correct thing.
Thanks for any help or suggestions! -James |
