okay, i have the 2 hardware stated. how do i hook it up so i can record one channel and watch another.

the TV has 3 video inputs. the vcr instructions says to split the cable line, one to TV directly and one to the box, then box to VCR. then use one of the video lines for VCR to TV.

is this right?

Yep, sounds right to me...note: by doing this, you will not be able to get any scrambled channels to watch while you are taping (cannot watch PPV for example).
