I already own VE and was not happy with it when I tried to calibrate my new 36XBR400.

Should I get Avia?

I have both and prefer Avia.

The video setup on both discs is basically the same though with either one giving the same tips and screens, Avia gives a few more options, but not many.

On the sound setup side I think Avia has much better setup features and lets you fine tune the sound more.

Since you are concerned with the video portion I don't think switching to Avia would help all that much. If it really looks bad to you and you have to have the color temp setup perfect(like me) try to get an ISF tech to come out and calibrate it for you, that is the only way. Good Luck

Like jumbojp I have both and prefer Avia. Some differences not noted:

* Avia does NOT require that your player pass a below black signal for black level calibration like VE

* Avia is easier to navigate

* Avia includes more tests and a detailed explaination of each one

Since you didn't say why you were not happy with your results from VE its hard to comment. I've been happy with the results from both. If you find that the image is too dark: a) give yourself some time to adjust; b) try to control the lighting in the room (if you're not doing this already); c) turn up the brightness slightly.

Perhaps you can post some specifics as to why you were not happy image after VE calibration?

tests on Avia, as it didn't do 5.1 frequency
sweeps, just 1 channel at a time -- kinda
makes it difficult to discover crossover/placement
problems, one of the primary reasons for
testing the audio in the first place!

Anyone ever run across a setup disc with 5.1
sweeps (all channels playing at once)?
