I just sold a Philips Magnavox DVD420AT DVD Player on an online auction. I just received the following email from the buyer:

I received the DVD player but their seems to be a slight problem. When I play a movie the color tends to fade in and out and sometimes goes to black and white. I have tried various dvd's and they do the same so I know it isn't a bad disc.

Anyone have a clue what the problem might be? I have hooked up this player through Composite and S-Video connections and had no problems whatsoever. Every disc I've put in it has played just fine. I'll have to ask what type of connection he has, which I imagine is important. Someone please help before I get negative feedback!

Make sure he didn't hook it up through his VCR. It sounds like Macrovision.

He was hooking it up through his VCR. But he also said he tried going straight to the TV but didn't get any picture then. He doesn't have an S-Video connection so that's out of the question. Could it be faulty AV cables? I'm just going on the limited imformation he gave me. Any ideas???

He said he hooked it up to the VCR so Macrovision answers that question.

Did he set his TV to "Video" or "AUX" so that he can watch the video feed coming from the DVD?
For all you know, he might have pressed play on the DVD and be trying to watch DVD's by going to channel 3 on the TV thinking its the same as a VCR
