LD player
 

bought a Pioneer LD-V4200 laserdisc players for $10 at my local thriftstore, figuring I had nothing to loose. It works great, can view items which can't be found but on LD. After a year of a saved search on ebay, bought a remote for my player for $20...not realizing that it was a corded remote and that my player was missing the plug for the remote jack. Can anyone tell me where I can get this part without having to buy something broken from the internet for more than I paid for the player and remote combined? It has the jack at one end, which mounts to the inside of the player face with two screws, and presumably a wire with a three-pin connector to the board. I guess it's expecting a lot, but thought it was worth a try. Thx in advance.

Why not just get a universal remote? The Logitech Harmony series has the Pioneer LD-V4200 in its database, I just checked.

The LD-V4200 was an industrial Laserdisc player, intended for use in schools and businesses. The remote was sold separately, so as to bilk those businesses for a few extra dollars. If the remote is corded, the player may not have an IR sensor that will accept a signal from a universal remote.

Swore I saw an IR receiver in a pic of it yesterday while googling, must've been for another model.

From these pics, it looks like the port labeled "ext cont" would be for the wired remote, right?

Waterman3, are you suggesting that someone took the jack for it out of your player, presumably to use in another one?

I wonder if it'd be possible to create a replacement using Radioshack parts and the like. Maybe with the service manual:

An interesting thought it using the RS-232 port to control the player somehow.

Back when PCs still had serial ports, there was software for controlling Pioneer LD players via the RS-232 port:

Of course, one wouldn't want to have to use a PC just to control the LD player remotely.

An interesting idea would be to build an infrared-to-serial receiver, something like this:

Of course, it'd have to be modified to work with the LD's 15-pin RS-232 port. Also, the infrared remote would have to know the right commands. This old post may have some info on it:
