Imax offering Imax theater for the home

Imax is now offering, for 1-2 million dollars, an Imax for the home.

I guess if you're super rich and can afford it, then it'll be worth getting. You can then add this http://articles.latimes.com/2013/apr...inema-20130409 and for a fee of 35000 dollars for the equipment and 500 to 600 dollars per rental, you can watch first run movies when they are released without leaving you home. I need to win the lottery

Re: Imax offering Imax theater for the home

That video talks about IMAX sound, enhanced colors, etc., as part of the IMAX experience. IMHO, the most impressive part of the experience is the size of the screen. Who's going to have the space for such a giant screen except the very rich? It's a neat idea, but I wonder how many of them will be willing to alter the appearance/design of their homes to accommodate the height needed for an IMAX screen.

Re: Imax offering Imax theater for the home

I don't think the home versions are intended to be the standard commercial theater size. The video talked about specific theater design, no doubt to fit into whatever space exists, but with Imax's dimensions.

My take is this is a group of guys that make most of the AVS pretentiousness look mild, and they feel like designing ultimate theaters for money.

There are already tons of smaller IMAX screens in multiplexes diluting the brand, why not take it one step further?

I already think my IMAX is smaller then it should be, when I think of IMAX I think of the main feature being the huge screen.

Re: Imax offering Imax theater for the home

Second thought, that type of screen and sound system look great for a home theater. However with the IMAX name it kind of down plays what people are used to what IMAX normally is.
